The people who did not like my skin color for the most part left me alone or were even nice to me. When you take it fro granted that someone elses struggles are simliar to your own you can lose the significance of the hardship.

I now that I open my mouth I can't seem to stop myself from saying everything I think. I should be able to say that this was agreat post and I really appreciate the work that you put into writing it. I found this to be inspiring and I think the othre stuff was about unrealted issues that I dodn't get a chance to discuss enough.LLnLnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-863564811307869766.post-3007024150170774552009-06-16T00:00:54.000-07:002009-06-16T00:00:54.000-07:00My pleasure Kelly, Thank YOU for a great idea and ...My pleasure Kelly, Thank YOU for a great idea and here's to your sucess in the years to come!Rebeccanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-863564811307869766.post-3300620914778315162009-06-15T19:48:17.000-07:002009-06-15T19:48:17.000-07:00Thank you sooo much for posting the picture and th...Thank you sooo much for posting the picture and the great post!!! It wasn't like that when I was growing up.
And Listen, our struggle is now, but the struggle for civil rights for everyone continues.
Hate and bigotry are hate and bigotry, I have to say that what African American's went through in this country is criminal as all acts of bigotry and cowardice are. We can't sit and say which side had it worse because these things come from the same hate in others. They hurt everyone. If you want to, you can read a post I wrote on MLK day this year, it is at
http://www.pamshouseblend.com/diary/9116/

Let's not forget what your ancestors did for ALL of us in paving the way. Sometimes I think that I can relate to gay issues because I'm black. Then I think abuot my life and the number of time racism and discrimantion were unquestionable and its been far and few between.

My granparents had a completely different expercience but they did wonder about getting married and they could always vote. If I did futhre in my ancestory past our struggles are simliar but they are not the struggles that I can personally relate to and that humbles me. I hate to hear about somebody being excluded and hurt I feeling like there is nothing that I could do or say to make it better.

Still I some how feel empowered by this article. For so llong I did not speak. I did not speak up when kids wrote the word "nigger" on one of my favorite books in 5th grade. I did not speak up when a church meember said that homosexuality is a sin that needs to be repenetd of to be right with God. For so long in my life I fel like my opinion did not matter that much, I felt lucky to be me but did not feel like I had to share my thoughts. They lead to a lonely and mousy existenence.

To see so much struggle, victory and overcoming from a group of people that admire and my heart goes out to helps to give me a reason speak up. There is too much silence in this world. When there is domestic abuse I am not silent. I am always slow to spek and try not make waves but I speak when I know that I need to, and when I know I can make a difference.LLnLnoreply@blogger.com
